From Bloomberg.com:
An exodus of discouraged workers from the job market kept the U.S. unemployment rate from climbing above 10 percent in December, economists said.
Had the labor force not decreased by 661,000 last month, the jobless rate would have been 10.4 percent, according to economists including David Rosenberg at Gluskin Sheff & Associates in Toronto and Harm Bandholz at UniCredit Research in New York.
“The actual unemployment rate is higher than shown by the official numbers,” Bandholz said yesterday after a Labor Department report released in Washington showed the economy unexpectedly lost 85,000 jobs in December while the jobless rate was unchanged.
Not a whole lot I can say when the only hope and change people are getting is more and more unemployment and misery.

Fannie and Freddy continue to rack up the financial red ink, and instead of shutting off the money spigot to contain the losses, the Obama administration decides to remove caps on the amounts allowed and throw even more money away.
To add insult to injury the CEOs of Fannie and Freddy are going to get INCREASED pay, and in cash:
The pay packages for top officers are entirely in cash; company shares have been trading on the New York Stock Exchange at less than $2 apiece, and it isn’t clear when the companies will to profitability or whether common shares will have any value in the long term.
For the CEOs, annual compensation consists of a base salary of $900,000, deferred base salary of $3.1 million and incentive pay of as much as $2 million.
Looks like government supported/public sector fat cats are more than acceptable, unlike private sectors ones.

Iran will possess the technology to build a nuclear bomb by early 2010 and be able to produce one the following year, Israeli media quoted Israel’s defense minister as saying Monday.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak delivered his assessment before the Israeli parliament’s defense and foreign affairs committee. It broadly matches assessments from other nations including the U.S., which estimates that Tehran could produce a nuclear weapon between 2010 and 2015.
So far this administration’s foreign policy is working out to be worse than ineffectual. Coddling dictators and supporting religious tyrants is not making the world safer, despite what the Nobel Committee wanted to believe.

The federal budget is still a complete mess, and getting worse, despite the lofty claims and gaseous promises of candidate Obama. So far Obama is doing a stellar job of being Bush II, something the Left tried to say McCain and Palin would be.
Obama is making Carter not look so bad any more, and all within his first year. Incompetence that staggeringly bad can work “miracles”.

In 2007, while supporting the media lynching of radio shock jock Don Imus for some remarks, Senator Obama made the following hilarious and absurd comment to ABC News:
And I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture, we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids,” he concluded.
Lest we think this was just an aberration in any otherwise PC rant, there is also this:
“What we’ve been seeing around this country is this constant ratcheting up of a coarsening of the culture that all of have to think about,” Obama said.
Fast forward to 2009 and now President Obama revels in slurring his critcs with the crude sexual slang “teabagger”, and demands his minions do the same.
The left always reminds its opponents that speech that offends is good, but only when it is their speech.
